Today in this article let us have a look at the status of operating system usage in Nepal. But before that let us have a general introduction about the operating system. According to Wikipedia, An Operating system is a system software that manages computer hardware and software resources and provide common services for computer programs. Operating system are found on many devices that contain a computer from cellular phones and video game consoles to web servers and supercomputers. In a nutshell, operating system is a software that maintains the hardware and makes it able to perform the task that was intended for.
Talking about global status of operating system usage, As per Wikipedia for desktop computers, Microsoft dominates the market share of 82.74 % followed by Apple's Mac OS with 13.23 % and Linux collectively with 1.57%. Similarly in case of smart phone Android dominates the market with 87.5 %, followed by Apple's iOS with 12.1 %. However talking about overall status, as per statcounter.com Android Shares 39.61 % of the market share, followed by windows with 35.78 %, iOS of 13.8%, os X of 6.15%, and Linux of 0.75 % which is shown in figure below:
Now, let us have a look at the current trend of operating system usage in Nepal as of June 2019. According to statcounter Android Shares the largest market share of 61.6%, followed by windows of 27.32%, iOS of 4.58%, osX of 3.51%, linux of 0.43%.
The graph below shows the timeline of operating system market share in Nepal for latest one year period. In this period, the OS market for android was decreased for the first 3 months and that of windows was increased but lately android increased its market share which can be seen from the graph below:

From the data above one thing is clear that the market share of Android is increasing day by day and that of windows is decreasing day by day not only in the global context but also in the context of Nepal because of the increase in popularity of the smart phones and Android.
